Join us for a glimpse into Hornb\u00e6k\u2019s art history with the talk \u201cThe Artists\u2019 Colony in Hornb\u00e6k\u201d. We will explore some of the most prominent artists who visited and depicted Hornb\u00e6k from the mid-19th century onwards.<\/p>\n
Today, most people are familiar with the Skagen Painters \u2013 but before artists truly began making their way to Skagen, they settled in Hornb\u00e6k and established Denmark\u2019s first artists\u2019 colony in the 1870s.<\/p>\n
These included artists such as P.S. Kr\u00f8yer, Holger Drachmann, Viggo Johansen and Carl Locher, with many more following in their footsteps. In Hornb\u00e6k, the artists were fascinated by the beach, the plantation, the mountains of Kullen on the horizon and the local fishing community.<\/p>\n
During the talk, we will look at paintings, drawings and prints from this period, as well as works from the Danish Golden Age by artists including P.C. Skovgaard and J.Th. Lundbye, who found some of their most idyllic motifs along the North Coast around Hornb\u00e6k.<\/p>\n
The talk will be given by Ida Lehrmann Madsen, who holds an MA in Art History. Ida is, among other things, the author of The Artists\u2019 Colony in Hornb\u00e6k, published in collaboration with the Hornb\u00e6k Local History Society.<\/p>\n
There will be a short break during the talk, when coffee and tea will be available for purchase at the bar.<\/p>\n
