Join us for a blooming talk focusing on female artists’ deep fascination with nature around the year 1900.
In this lecture, we’ll take a closer look at a selection of Danish female artists who paved the way for women’s right to become artists in Denmark. Among others, we’ll explore the works of Bertha Wegmann, Sigrid Ring, Anna Syberg, and Alhed Larsen.
Central themes in these women’s artistic worlds were nature, the garden, and close family life—topics we’ll delve into throughout the talk.
Since we’re in Hornbæk, we’ll also explore the female artists’ colony that emerged in Horneby in the 1920s, led by artists such as Astrid Holm and Ebba Carstensen. For them, garden motifs also became popular—this time in a modernist spirit.
The lecture will be given by art historian Ida Lehrmann Madsen, who has previously visited Hornbækhus with talks on the Artist Colony in Hornbæk. This time, Ida draws from her 2021 publication Sigrid Ring – The Joy of Plants and her ongoing research on the subject.
There will be a short break during the lecture, with coffee and tea available for purchase at the bar.
Please note that seating is limited.
